Story Consultation
So. Why Consulting?
I’ve noticed something over the last couple of years.
As an editor, I work with a lot of new writers after the drafting is done, but it’s become clear that a lot of new writers are skipping critical steps when it comes to the creation of their stories, characters, and the overall drafting process. I find myself helping out developmentally when I’m supposed to be focusing on the mechanics of their writing.
To put it bluntly: writers are not clear on their story ideas, getting to know their characters, or prepping their drafts properly … and it shows.
Thus, every step moving forward when trying to draft is infinitely more complicated and stressful than it has to be, meaning less fun, and I don’t believe writing should be less fun.
Things like a superficial understanding of core story topics and themes, underdeveloped characters, and not having a game plan for drafting seriously and negatively impact the drafts. This is coming from a certified PLANTSER (we’ll get into it).
I’ve decided to offer these consulting services, specifically focusing on the before and during the drafting process, to clear up any confusion on what should be happening during drafting, so that when a writer gets to the editing stage, they have a solid draft that is actually ready to be enhanced further.
My goal with offering these consultations is to help writers get a handle on this craft they are obviously passionate about and help them not only find the fun in the process, but also the intentionality.
